MORRIS DAVID BROUGH PERT 1947 - 2010

Here we gather the reaction worldwide to the passing of Morris

BOB WARSECK - Co-Publisher Voyage in Space Electronic Realization

A few years ago Morris and I collaborated on an electronic realization of his piano suite Voyage in Space, 20 Pieces for Keyboard.  He was deeply involved in the development, but always insisted that my word was final.  As he put it, once a piece of music leaves your drawing board, it's no longer yours.

He became a very good friend over the years, even though we never actually met.  I still very clearly remember the first time he called me out of the blue after I wrote to him asking for his thoughts on my initial sketches ViS:  "Bawb, Bawb. Morrrris Perrrrt here in Scotland"--almost unintelligible to the untrained ear.

While he was the final musical thought guru , he was also interested in everything else going on as well, whether it was my son's video game music compositions or the latest developments in cosmological theory (a realm we both loved, obviously).

It was always a joy to talk with him. He always had a new idea, a new point of view, or a new synthesis.  We had over the last year started discussing another collaboration, Moon Dances and Luminos.  I will leave the music sitting on my DAW next to the keyboard for now, trying to envision what Morris would suggest.

I will always be proud to know that he loved my interpretation of Voyage in Space and that he took such interest in getting it right. The fact that he laid down the percussion for the piece is the ultimate compliment.  I wish we had time to do it again.
